Ancient Egypt
This
book is well known and makes a good resource for a Key Stage
2 optional study on the ancient world. It is a fascinating
subject and the book is very far ranging as an introduction
to the subject.
The

Sledge, Tutankhamen's Tomb, Temple Plan, temple Pylon, Farmhouse,

Chapter 2 Farming
To lift water from the River Nile to the level of their
irrigation ditches the Egyptians used a shaduf. You can
see a picture of one of these simple machines opposite.

Chapter 3 Writing
The Egyptian word for hand, for example began with the sound
"D" and so this sign (hand shown)was the Egyptian
letter. Leg in Ancient Egyptian began with the sound "B"
and so the letter "B" was written like this (picture
of leg shown)

Chapter 5 The Pharaoh
Pharaohs wore many different crowns at their coronations.
one of these was the combined crown of Upper and Lower Egypt
which you can see in the picture opposite. This crown was
made by joining the tall white stiffened linen crown of
Upper Egypt with the red crown of Lower Egypt.

Chapter 6 Monuments
The Pharaoh himself was buried in a chamber deep inside
the pyramid and a maze of passages left off this room. These
often lead to dead ends.
